We got tired of watching people score by hand
Dart Meister started with pool, not darts. Running league nights meant watching good players spend half the evening doing arithmetic on scrap paper, arguing about a total nobody had written down, and losing track of who was up. The scoring was the worst part of the night, and it was the part a phone could obviously fix.
Darts was the place to start. It has the clearest rules, the most math per turn, and the most people playing it in bars and garages with no scoreboard in sight. The app went on the App Store in 2012 and it has been there ever since.
Timothy Moose

Timothy is a product builder, designer and developer who writes the code and draws the screens. He came to this from pool leagues rather than darts, which is where the interest in automating league scoring came from in the first place.
He will tell you himself that he is not a darts player. What he is good at is watching how people actually score a game and building software that gets out of the way. Fourteen years on the App Store, and a 4.8 rating from people who use it at a board, is the part of the record that matters.
His day job is SwiftKick Mobile, a mobile development agency, where he builds and launches new app products. Tractable Labs LLC is the older entity Dart Meister was published under, and it stays for that reason.
Common rules, plainly stated, with the official ones linked
The guides on this site describe the versions of Cricket, 301, 501 and Shanghai that most people actually play in bars, garages and casual leagues. They are written to match how the app scores each game, so that what you read here and what happens on your phone agree.
They are not sanctioned tournament rules and we do not present them as such. Where a governing body publishes an official version, we link to it directly on the page: the American Darts Organization rulebook for US steel tip, the World Darts Federation for international play, and the American Darters Association for soft tip leagues. If your league has its own rules, your league wins.
